I hate bringing hot dishes because I worry about not being able to keep it hot enough or cold dishes (like potato salad) because I worry about not being able to keep it cold enough. I don't want to be responsible for someone getting food poisoning.

And one of your coworkers probably posted that she will never eat your homemade food because, though she is not sure, you might have cats!

I always sign up for either dessert or fruit when taking a side anywhere. My work doesn’t do potlucks thankfully but if we go to a friends those are my go to. I don’t enjoy cooking/baking. I still get invited places so my friends must not judge me for it.

I always sign up to bring paper plates/cups/etc. Absolutely hate potlucks esp. work ones.

I mean, I wouldn’t necessarily care what this coworker did unless it meant I couldn’t sign up to bring desert and I wanted to bring dessert. Can’t you just say “oh wonderful, we’ll have shortbread as always because Joanne has signed up, I see! But I’ve been trying chocolate cake recipes a lot recently, so I’ll bring one of the best of those, so people will have a choice of dessert.”

+100 I hated these so much at my previous job. Everyone did except the boss.

Ditto - s o gross! I thought potlucks died with the pandemic.

Can't the company afford to pay for some food? Also less liability as it's not stuff made in peoples' homes.

I am the person who always signs up for desserts, and brings something store-bought. I do it because I hate to cook, and my evenings are busy anyway carting my kids to their activities. I would much rather give money towards a catered lunch.

I never eat at those potlucks unless it’s store bought food. I’ve seen enough of some of my coworkers’ home kitchens.

No, who cares. She probably doesn’t cook and knows everyone likes those cookies.

Does this really upset you enough to post about? I would be highly annoyed if I were asked to bring anything for a pot luck at work. Luckily, my employer isn’t cheap and pay to cater events.

And brings 2 packs of those butter/ shortbread ring cookies that usually sell for 2 for $3 in grocery stores. Is that tacky?
