Was DC in the MCPS gifted program? That is sometimes weighed into the decision, noting that FFX program is generally more accepting than other school districts.

We moved summer after 2nd grade from MCPS to FCPS. We submitted her MCPS testing scores, letter of recommendation from her MCPS 2nd grade teacher, some work samples, and had the IQ testing done at GMU. We filed it all over the summer and in a couple weeks they let us know.

What grade is your child entering?

I would contact the AAP office for more info since you’re transferring in. The process for those already in FCPS, and timeline for applications, is very different than transfers.

The thresholds are set to be considered and then each package is evaluated. The test score thresholds are for the NNAT and CoGAT, not iReady or DRA. The old standard had been a 132 in one sub category on the NNAT or CoGAT would mean that a child is in pool and automatically evaluated. The test scores are now ES dependent and represent the top 10% of the scores in each school.

Parent referred packets and submissions (parent questionnaire and samples) are normally due in December. She will probably take the CoGAT in the fall. I am not sure how it works for kids in grades above 2nd who move in, if they are automatically considered with high enough test scores or if parents have to refer.

There is an entire forum dedicated to AAP.

I am moving to FCPS, and I hear about AAP program for ES. Can someone tell me more about it? Is it easy to get in the program? And what subjects do they cover? And how long is program? We are moving from MCPS, thank you.
