I know she said no to dinner, but my daughter recently went to the Melting Pot for a friends birthday. They are 12-13 and loved it. It can be expensive, so it would be a small group.

She also said no to bowling but has she been to Bowlero? Mine doesn’t like traditional bowling but has fun at the Bowlero parties with bigger groups.

Nope, did you miss where I said it was 40-45 kids at the trampoline park and about 12 at the sleepover?

We’re in Rockville. So my comment was to say that Manassas is far and that I had done a cursory, close-in search for roller skating places and not found anything so I was surprised to hear there was one in Manassas.

I thought of the community room thing, but sounds like it will get boring quick. I can come up with some activities but DD would probably deem them too babyish or be horrified that I was trying to be social director.

Movies could be fun but letting a bunch of kids loose in a mall afterward sounds like a potential recipe for disaster.

I would hire someone to show them how to do different hairstyles and paint nails or something like that…..one of her friends mentioned doing a catwalk, which we giggled about at the time, but if they do the work, I’ll let them do it.

There’s roller skating out in Manassas, it’s like a time warp from the 90s!

Sounds like she wants a big hangout. Could you rent a room at a community center and have lots of food, drinks and music. They are too old for activities but may like hanging out. Maybe a Photo Booth would be fun too?

If she's so picky, tell her she can research it and come up with ideas herself. Besides the ones you have mentioned, DD's friend group has done ice skating, movies at the mall (Tyson's, so they did movies, then roamed the mall and ate there as well) and rock climbing.

What have you all done for your DDs turning 13? Mine wants to do something but isn't sure what. Is there any roller skating around here? I offered a dinner out with some friends and a sleepover with a handful. She said no to dinner and not sure about the sleepover (I thought that would be an immediate yes). I think she wants to have a big group with kids from all her activities - neighborhood, sports, school, etc. and that ain't happening -- just too many kids and we are past that. Her friends have done escape room, bowling, painting, laser tag, manicures -- she's said no to all of that, though she's enjoyed all those parties.

Thoughts on how to satisfy this picky age with something fun that won't break the bank?
