I am perpetually trying to lose weight and try to remind myself I need a lot less food to be sated than I think, and often when I eat as much as my eyes want, I feel kind of feel gross and tired.
If I let my stomach get actually hungry and then eat enough to quell the hunger, I eat much less, though plenty for health. So in your example, I could either eat a bowl of tater tots with each meal and feel bloated and tired and sluggish, or I could wait until my body gets hungry, eat something small yet healthy PLUS two or three tater tots for the taste, and keep going.
