Aspen calculates the final grade by converting the letter grade for each term to gpa points and averaging. Each term is weighted equally. The final grade is based on this table:

4.0 ≥ A > 3.7
3.7 ≥ A- > 3.3
3.3 ≥ B+ > 3.0
3.0 ≥ B > 2.7
2.7 ≥ B- > 2.3
2.3 ≥ C+ > 2.0
2.0 ≥ C > 1.7
1.7 ≥ C- > 1.3
1.3 ≥ D+ > 1.0
1.0 ≥ D > 0.7
0.7 ≥ F > 0.0

Does Aspen calculate the grade or does the teacher name what the final grade is? A student who earns a higher grade across the year should have the 3rd and 4th quarter grades weighted heavier than the first two quarters, right?

OP here.
Aspen changed the grade to an A (without me doing anything).

It really is HARD to get anything less than a final grade A in DCPS.

3 A's and one B+.

Is this an A-?

(Aspen is calculating it as an A-)

3.65 one semester
4.0 one semester
= 3.825 for the year.
3.825 is an A-?

Thanks!!

An a- is a 3.7, an A if 4.0. So if the grade is between 3.7 and 3.85, it’s rounded down to A- and if it’s a 3.85 and above it rounds up to an A. Since 3.825 is less than 3.85, it rounds down to A-

They don’t round, they cut up. My kid has a class this year where the term grades were A, A-, B+, A. That averages to 3.75. Year end grade is an A, per Aspen.

There are no semester grades. Three As plus one B- is an A-.

Let's say a kid gets an A (4.0) one quarter and a 2.7 (B-) one quarter.
What is the semester grade?

Then the second semester is a 4.0.

What is the final grade?

THANK YOU!
