Definitely get checked out. But I would not overly worry at this point. It could be that as you get older you are just less interested in food. But it is good to check.

I posted about this same thing and everyone told me I was nuts to assume the worst. Get it checked out. Also one thing I've noticed as I've aged is that food just doesn't mean as much to me as it used to. I'd rather reward myself with something else. Meal time means lots of work for me because of kids. Food is just not the pleasure it used to be--it's work. Maybe that's it?

And don’t feel bad for going to the doc because you dont feel right. That’s a perfectly valid reason. In fact, when I called my GYN on Friday with precisely that, they had me come in today (they took some blood etc). I feel like your GYN is the person to call since they’re really Womens health doctors once you’re past your child bearing years (and even before that— just better looped in on Womens health in general).

This is why I don’t comment on people’s appearance…you never know what’s going on. I hope it’s nothing in your case.

Surgery was just knee surgery in January. It was minor but I just stopped doing weights after injury in September and only now doing light weights so my formerly muscled legs are pitiful. Definitely muscle loss accounts for some of the change I think.

But I think the scale is correct. I was 117 about a month ago at the doctor which already was like 7 lbs less than the time before but I was fasting for blood test and in light clothes so I figured some of the difference was that. . I weighed myself at home again because shorts I bought last year were falling off me yesterday. But I’ll ask dh. He hasn’t said anything or noticed anything except to complain I am not eating his cooking.

You sure the scale is correct?

When was your surgery? It literally took me months to get my appetite back after my double mastectomy. It helped me lose all the weight I gained during chemo (which was a plus) but I was pretty shocked how long it took.

My mother was thrilled to have unexpected and unexplained weight loss. It was cancer. I certainly hope this is not the case for you, OP, but please go to your GP and GYN to get checked out thoroughly.

See the doc for a checkup. It’s not normal for you, that’s enough of a reason.

Yes, you already know, to the doctor you go to rule things out. Especially if you’re losing your appetite.

No, it's not normal, OP. You need a medical check-up with bloodwork. My husband's boss, who headed a lab doing research on ovarian cancer, was diagnosed with that exact cancer after unexplained weight loss. On the other hand, it could something eminently treatable like hyperthyroidism, which I've had. But you won't know until you go to the doctor.

Could also be your thyroid. Get checked out by your doctor.

You definitely need to go get seen to rule out scary stuff. Anecdotally, I had this happen due to anxiety, and I’ve seen it happen to middle aged relatives due to stress or vague “autoimmune” problems without any serious underlying condition.

My entire life I've had to watch what I eat carefully, work out regularly, to maintain a normal BMI. While this lead to disordered eating in my teens/20s, I've been healthy (if careful) since then and have been able to maintain a general weight of 118-123 at 5'2" and have worn the same size for year (I'm 52 btw). It seemed to be an easy setpoint, although I do not have a fast metabolism (had it measured and it is l15% lower than expected for my age/muscle mass) so its even weirder to drop weight. I got on the scale this morning and I"m 113, which is a number I haven't seen in 25 years.

On the one hand, that's still a healthy weight at my height I dont look thin even except my legs look scrawny. On the other I'm now freaked out about why... I noticed definitely have not had much of an appetite the past few months--I generally try to have a protein shake or a half turkey avocado sandwich around 11/noon and I eat some dinner with the family, but there have been times lately where I basically have a yogurt and strawberries at 5/6 pm and am done. Or, like, I goto a reception and after a few sips of wine and one piece of cheese I dont want more--that never happens to me. I know I have lost some muscle mass due (recent knee surgery and rehab that has kept me away from my normal exercise routine) so maybe that's it but wondering whether I should get back to the doctor--i had labs recently and was flagged for low levels of certain things (ferritin, zinc, alk phosphate) so I'm due for a checkup. I had a colonoscopy a year ago (I have them every.3 years due to polpys, family history, gastric issues and genetic risk), but now I'm freaked out about things like ovarian or pancreatic cancer. At the same time I dont want to seem like a crazy hypochondriac and maybe this just happens with age?
