Take them on a walk with a piece of inside out masking tape around their wrist like a bracelet. Give them a theme and have them find objects that meet that theme to grab and stick on their tape bracelets. Any Smithsonian museum is free. There is no fee to enter Wolf Trap and do the Junior Ranger badge booklet/scavenger hunt. Scott’s Run Nature Preserve is free and close to Clemyjontri Park. There’s like a trillion splash pads and playgrounds in this area. Go watch people kayak on the river down at Georgetown waterfront. Libraries have tons of free programs- not just storytimes but make and take crafts and cool presentations ; check the event calendars at different branches

Is this a joke? DC is possibly the best place in the world to raise small kids if you're looking for things to do with them.

They are most lilely very cheap. and don't want to spend a money.. You have to pay for gas, or Smart Trip. then food

Pool / splash pads
Playgrounds - we try to visit some that are further away, that we don’t normally frequent
Zoo
Smithsonian museums
Monuments
Library - we visit weekly for new books, complete the summer reading challenge, and many library systems have events all summer
Outdoor movies, if your kids are old enough to stay up that late

Inexpensive:
Pick your own fruit farm
Discount movies - Regal, CMX, AMC all usually have them
Udvar-Hazy (parking is not free)

Pool, Smithsonian, play dates. We also do the discount movies. I hate the heat so we don’t do a lot outside apart from the pool. Works for us - friends are key.

Museums, hikes/trail walks, splash pads at playgrounds, bike riding, picnics, play dates, zoo, story time at the library, and run through the sprinkler at home.

Google free kids activties in your city or town. There are some newsletters that people publish with this info.
