Genesis makes very nice luxury and performance cars. They are positioned to compete more with the German luxury brands (BMW and MB) than the Japanese luxury brands (Lexus and Acura). All of their gasoline models are based on bespoke rear drive architectures and not tarted up Hyundai/Kia models (except for the RWD/AWD Kia Stinger & G70). Their cars offer great luxury touches, technology and features for the money. They offer 90 to 95% of what a comparable German car offers for about 25% less.

I almost pulled the trigger G70 two years ago. It's a great car that competes very well with the BMW 3 series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C class for less money. Genesis does not have the cache of the Germans or Lexus but that is far less important to me than content, driving feel and overall value. The deal breaker for me was the driver seat was too uncomfortable on my back and bottom during longer drives. The G80 solves that problem but it was bigger and more expensive than what I was looking.

I plan to look very closely at their electric models for my next car which I plan to buy in fall 2024.

Brand value, f1 racing success, r&d, loyal following/fan base. All this stuff takes decades. You can’t just show up and put a good product for a couple years and expect everyone to switch.

I’ve never been in a Genesis. But years ago, my first non/crap car was a used Hyundai Elantra and I loved it

What’s up with them? They constantly get outstanding ratings for both reliability and luxury design/interiors. Yet you see far more bmws and Benz on the roads than genesis. If they’re such great cars, why aren’t they more popular?
