Absolutely no one still considers Vivian a man’s name. That was generations ago.

While I know Asian and male Vivians I sounds probably assume a Vivian was a white girl unless the last band indicated otherwise.

I’ve met an adult Vivian. She’s Asian.

I had no idea Vivian could be a boys name.

There's one in my daughter's class. White. Nickname Vivi. I like it - classic but not widely used right now. Never would have thought of it being unisex or Asian.

I have more than one child who has name that is commonly used for the other gender. No one cares. They may think it's uncommon at first, but they get over it and get to know the child. I've always thought of Vivian as a girl, but even if others do not, it will not matter.

Love Vivian. Simple and elegant. I am not fond of the other spellings, which seems like people just want a twist on a classic name.

Normal last minute jitters, but neither of those reasons should dissuade you.

Vivian was a boys name a REALLY long time ago. Like 100 years ago. No one, and I mean no one, is going to hear "Vivian" and think "wait, isn't that a boy's name?" You are totally safe there. It's like Ashley, which also used to be a boys name. No one uses it that way anymore.

And if Asians choose Vivian often, that just means it's very pretty! Asian cultures that choose western names for girls tend to gravitate to very feminine, pretty names -- Vivian, Violet, Grace, etc.

I also think Vivian is having a surge in popularity among all groups, not just Asian Americans.

Vivi is a really cute nn for a little girl, too.
