Yes, it’s essentially an electric tea kettle. You can boil water in them to make tea, instant oatmeal, soup, etc.

Most dorms dont allow hot pots/hot plates/appliances anymore for insurance/firehazard reasons. Some dont even allow fridges or microwaves in the student rooms.

No fridges?! I’m sure there have been fires started by fridges, but they’re nowhere near common enough to justify banning them.

I had electric hot pot (regal poly hot pot) in 1990 when I went off to college. Came in handy and I used it a lot. Well my niece is starting college in the fall so I got her one with a bunch of other gifts. The electric hot pots of today look a whole lot different than the one I had in 1990. She liked everything except the electric hot pot and asked if she could exchange it. I gave her the gift receipt for the exchange but I’m disappointed college students do not use them anyone. That’s what I used to cook noodles, warm sauces etc in my dorm room.
