Deal is 4X to 5X times larger than its sister middle schools. This creates all sorts of overcrowding problems in the classroom, on the athletic fields, on the stage, in the cafeteria, etc. Worse, it incentivizes under-enrolled MS all across the city. It’s complete madness to continue to bus kids there who could populate under enrolled middle schools and drastically improve funding allocations.

We live in boundary for Deal/JR - and we're two miles away. My kids can walk, ride bikes, but... they've got a ton of homework and extracurriculars. I think it's 100% reasonable to have bus service that's reliable. It becomes an equity issue for kids across the city too. The poster who complained about busses adding to traffic needs to just be ignored.

It's also not how buses work, while we're at it.

Theoretically, this school year (22/23) was the last for the grandfathered kids in Crestwood and 16th St Heights to enroll at Deal following the 2014 boundary changes. The D33, D34, and W45 buses serve students from these neighborhoods, so service should arguably continue for the Deal students through the 24/25 school year and then for JR kids for another 4 years (until 28/29), right?

The D31 that serves Shepherd, whose boundaries have not been changed, should remain, right?

I don't know how Bancroft kids access Deal/JR, but those buses should remain too, right?

If new boundary changes occur as a result of the next review, then I would imagine those bus lines would remain through any grandfathering that is put in place then.

At least this is what would make the most sense, but you never know with WMATA/DCPS!

If (big if) this boundary study determines a change is needed for the Deal/J-R feeder pattern, it won't take effect until 2025.

Does anyone what the future is for the D31, D32 and D33 buses serving Deal, along with the similar Jackson-Reed buses? I am hoping they will continue running along 14th and 16th streets but heard they might be affected by school boundary changes.
