AAP 6th grade math (or advanced 6th grade math) is Math 7 and took the Math 7 SOL. Math 7H takes the 8th grade SOL, which is Pre-Algebra. There is some overlap in topics, but only in the same way that 6th grade math covers topics from 5th grade at a deeper, further level but then introduces new topics and concepts.
Taking Algebra would be an entire grade level of content skip. A lot of groundwork for Algebra (functions, solving multi-step algebraic equations, especially involving fractions) is laid in Pre-Algebra/Math 7H.
Don't worry, most of the students in Math 7H will be coming from 6th grade advanced math. Some will be skipping from 6th grade math to 7H (I know one middle school encourages this for 6th graders with high enough SOL scores on the 6th grade SOL), but only those who are strong in math.
Thank you for this (and to the PP that posted the link of curriculum at
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/middle/mathematics/prealgebra). It confirms per your PP that Math 7HN is what we used to call Pre-Algebra. Math 7 (or Math 6AAP) is not pre-algebra but whatever is the prelude. I did not realize that and got lost on the Math 7/Math 7 HN titles which look identical.
