It confirms per your PP that Math 7HN is what we used to call Pre-Algebra. Math 7 (or Math 6AAP) is not pre-algebra but whatever is the prelude. I did not realize that and got lost on the Math 7/Math 7 HN titles which look identical.

M7H is prealgebra honors (FKA math 8). It covers most of 1st semester algebra at a less in depth level, and then does a random survey of geometry, probability, etc.
It's really strong preparation for algebra 1 honors in 8th grade. Taught well, your child will not be bored.
The caveat is that it is open enrollment, so if the culture at your school is that everyone takes honors everything regardless of qualifications, the course may not be a true honors math class and may just be a regular prealgebra class, in which case it would be more repetitive.

Thank you. But it is the same material for the most part? Just trying to see if DC will be bored with same material and what we should do. The AAP teacher at our school is neither friendly nor helpful so I don't know who to ask.
You can compare them yourself. The material will not be the same although there is significant overlap in some topics.

NP - my older child easily qualified for Algebra I a few years ago, and chose not to take it. No regrets - now a sophomore. DC wanted to make sure they had a good grasp of math and also middle school before taking a high school level class. If DC is so inclined, then deeper math courses could be pursued in college.

Does your spouse have any insight as to the material that is covered and whether it is a repeat of the 6th grade AAP math? Does he see some of the cusp kids who didn't get into Algebra get bored? I don't want to pay for math enrichment next year but if DC is not getting any new material, I may need to.

I was planning to put my kid in AAP Math 7 but he placed into Algebra. I personally don’t think he needs to take Calc junior year. This really isn’t that big of a deal for your child to take Math 7, which is Prealgebra.

My friend put her son in Alg 1 even tho he didn’t get pass advanced on the SOL. I personally would not do that but she did and I guess it’s going fine.
My spouse teaches honors math 7. We have 3 kids. Our oldest took alg 1 in 7th but I am certain our younger 2 will take honors math 7 even the 1 who will also be coming from aap.

Oh, no! Sorry to hear it. Do you have any insight as to options? I've heard that you can retake the SOL but not sure when or how that would be possible

We just got DC's SOL results and he did not make the cut-off as he only got a 487 on the SOL. He did get 97% on the IAAT so one of the prongs was met.
My question is whether the material presented in Math 7 in the following year will be a repeat of what was learned this year in 6th grade AAP math. Is the material different, or are the students who did not pass the SOL with a 500 in need of repeating their current math year? Obviously, we are disappointed but I'm trying to figure out what we'll need to do for him next year if he's going to spend a year covering material which he worked on in 6th.
