I "graduated" from both kindergarten and 8th grade, I don't think it hurt me.

Of all the things to miss. I miss little kids being taught phonics and how to read. Or being forced to memorize the multiplication table so they can do problems more quickly in future years.

But yeah, I guess whatever they do before they go to middle school is notable for some. Not the battle I’d pick but that’s just me.

As a consolation prize, anyone having to cope with the trauma of a 6th grade "graduation" should be guaranteed a high school graduation at Eagle Bank Arena.

Seriously doubt that has anything to do with drop it rates. Lol.

Drop out rates are extremely low, but I still don’t think it should be called the G word, they even played the graduation song. It is what it is, but I didn’t think FCPS will use the G word like that.

It isn’t FCPS but your school. Multiple posters above said their school do not call it graduation. I am all for calling out FCPS when they fail but this is clearly an individual school mistake.

I teach 6th and it has never been called graduation. Promotion or Moving Up Ceremony.

My DW teaches 6th grade and mentioned to me that she had an email from Dr Reid that their principal forwarded to the teachers. It said it should be referred to as a “promotion” since no degree is being earned.

+1, taught 6th grade for over 10 years with FCPS, always been “promotion.”

I’m heart broken…
Elementary schools shouldn’t have a “graduation” you don’t graduated from elementary school. You get “promoted” but you don’t graduated. Today my son “graduated” from 6th grade. I talked to the principal today and told her why they are calling graduation and not pronation she said FCPS policy. I’m heart broken. FCPS is going down hill fast.
