+1. Check out the parents not just defending these awful “fashion” choices, but they’re proud of it! My parents would never have let my 14 yr old ass hang out in public like that, and I should thank them every day for that.

I saw someone bending over outside their house the other day wearing what looked like a long sweater and a bathing suit underneath and thought it was a middle aged lady who threw something on after leaving the pool. She stood up and I realized it was my teenager’s good friend who was wearing short short denim cutoffs. It was both wildly unflattering and looked wildly uncomfortable. I feel like this is one of these things that the fashion powers that be foist on naive consumers every few years just so that they can sell more product.


I always think of the discomfort also. You have denim riding up your various cracks, causing both a wedgie and camel-toe. I don’t know how they stand it.


It's really no more uncomfortable than boxer briefs that happen to be made of denim. Context is everything. People wear this to the park or the pool, cool. Movies or restaurant, ok. Errands, weird. School pick up or doctor's office, gross.

I do a double take when I see panty-shorts and a long shirt on anyone of any age, but I have a valid reason. When I was a teen there was an old pervert who flashed and chased me on a popular running trail. He was wearing a long shirt and nothing else. I escaped unscathed, but it was a formative experience and now it's just instinctive for me to do a quick check that there is indeed some type of butt covering when I see people dressed like that. Call me an old fuddy-duddy all you want but this kind of outfit is banned in my household.
