I'm in a similar predicament but at this point in the year I think it's not possible to enroll for the coming year making it that much harder to transition for the 24-25 school year.

Why on earth would you switch a kid like this? He sounds like he has been, and will continue, to do just fine in public.

No way. If college placement was different, maybe. But since there’s no admissions bump from going to a private, I wouldn’t move him. Let him be happy. Supplement whatever you need academically (which you might in private, bc people do that in private!)

Switch to what? Any private school you get in to because you assume XYZ will be better there?

No perfect school Op. not on the private school either.

6th grade he has to write the essays, so the interviews, do the placement tests. He had been be on board and excited.

He may not be popular in new school. I have seen super stars at one school come to new school and never make the friends they want. Some schools can be cliquey and the social life is very parent driven.

And this isn’t necessarily true—it takes time. Even for a happy sporty kid, it may take the better part of a school year or longer to establish solid new friendships. It may be worth it but it isn’t fair to him to minimize that.

I would if I really thought the current path was bad. But a happy kid is worth a lot. Is he a kid who makes friends easily? A kid like that will probably be happy either way, but switching is an adjustment. If you’re going to do it, do it now—it’s harder to be new in ninth.
