NP I always take the turnpike. But anyone have an idea if the turnpike would be an alt route for 95 in that area? Or would 295 be first choice?

Your route won’t change specifically because of the detour but traffic from approx Cherry Hill to Trenton will likely increase as other people re-route. It will likely affect 295 more - the local road that parallels the NJT there - but it’s all interrelated. Weekends in the summer on the NJT were already bad. This is only going to make it worse.

Just give yourself more time.

The others have said it well - most people think they are taking 95 all the way up, but in fact, once you are in Delaware, you follow the signs for the bridge and stay on the turnpike. “95” veers off to the left and goes to Philly, but once past Philadelphia it just stops, and the NJT magically becomes “95” again at that point - the roads don’t re-merge. Many years ago when I first moved down here I made that mistake driving back to NY because I knew I was on 95 and knew my exit up in Jersey on 95, so when it came time for the roads to split, I followed signs for 95 instead of the New Jersey Turnpike. Wound up in Philly and the. Following some strange small roads to get back over to the Turnpike which at that point was renumbered.

There's no reason to even go into PA at all if you're driving from here to NJ/NY. You take 95 up to DE then get on the NJT or Garden State Parkway by taking the DE Memorial Bridge near Christiana Mall in DE. The 95 bridge won't affect anyone going to NY at all..

OP - thanks everyone who responded. I have never driven it and could see 1-95 and 2-95 on the route but was not sure how much that highway disaster near Philly would affect it.

It sounds like extra time will be needed as the projected length of journey is an hour longer even now late at night and not with day time traffic.

We may end up going with a train ride instead.

It was messy this afternoon. I’d give yourself extra time for sure. Google maps will reroute you to whatever route makes the most sense. There is no “secret” backroad way to get around 95 being shut down.

I'm not sure about Princeton, but I always access NJ from the Delaware Memorial Bridge which is pretty far south of where the highway collapsed (still Delaware). I'm sure Google Maps could get you to Princeton from there.

The collapsed section, which accommodates approximately 160,000 vehicles per day, has been closed indefinitely, in both directions, for miles.”

Does anyone familiar with driving from DMV to New Jersey/ NY city know whether the recent collapse of part of i95 will affect that commute? For how long would be your best guess?

If so, are there good alternative routes?
