PP here.

Also wanted to mention that Del Ray Montessori, Full Circle Montessori, and MSNV all also have toddler programs (“pre-primary” or “young children’s community) that start as young as 15-18 months, if you’re interested in enrolling your kid in school earlier. I know the latter two still had some spots open for toddlers this fall as of a couple of months ago, though I’m not sure what their status is now. Full Circle also has rolling admissions/enrollment for some of its programs.

For Alexandria, you could try Del Ray Montessori or Old Town Montessori, both of which are pretty established. Del Ray Montessori meets in a church and uses the outdoor space there. I don’t know about Old Town Montessori’s outdoor space.

In South Arlington, there’s Full Circle Montessori. My kids had a good experience there in the primary program (they start at age 2.5). The school’s classrooms are wonderfully spacious, but the outdoor space is really limited.

A great option if outdoor space is a real priority for your family is Montessori School of Northern Virginia. They have campuses in Annandale and Falls Church (not too far from Arlington/Alexandria) and have beautiful outdoor spaces at each.

If south Arlington, I don't know.

If north Arlington, then consider Brooksfield School or Montessori School of McLean. Both are on Kirby Road in McLean (i.e., just north of the Arlington county line).

Those two schools often get favorable mention on DCUM.

I am looking to start my son (currently 2) in a Montessori preschool once he turns 3. I know the wait list for these places is lengthy, so I figured I'd start researching now. I know not all schools are created equal. Does anyone have any first hand experience at a Montessori preschool in either Alexandria or Arlington that they have loved? Or any to stay away from? I am looking for one that has a nice outdoor space, as outdoor time is important to us as a family. I know that is hard to come by around here. Thanks for any input!
