Yep, but he was the best one of everyone we interviewed. We wound up doing paid trial half days with three people and he was the only one who followed all our instructions, who didn't seem flustered by both the baby crying and the dog wanting attention, and balanced making himself comfortable while still being respectful in our home. He gave us four references and they all glowed about him. We're years in and haven't regretted the decision.

I have. He’s on my regular roster of sitters. He is a single dad with a kid my own kid’s age. He is a reserve army soldier working on getting his degree so he’s flexible. He came highly recommended and he lives a ten minute drive away. He came to our place the first time for an intro play date just so we could get to know each other.

Would you use an adult male babysitter for your young children?

No.

Yes, I would hire a teen boy to babysit but not a male adult.

Don’t be afraid to be discriminatory here, OP. First of all, men aren’t exactly an oppressed class. They will be okay even if people looking for childcare discriminate against them. Second, you make decisions based on reality, not on what an ideal world is. For me it’s the same as not letting DD go out at night alone. No, if something happened to her it wouldn’t be her fault, but I’m not about to take a stand by risking her safety.

Hell, no.

From a website, no.
Its the one’s you know personally that you’re actually at a bigger risk for something bad happening.

Btw, I've used care.com with great success and YOU have to message the sitters first to get a good one. It's like Bumble!

I would not. I am fine with male caregivers at daycares/preschools (in theory...) and it is more normal in some cultures, but there are background checks and licensing in place for that. Would not hire one personally. I know it's not fair, women can be pervs too, etc. but I've just heard too many stories. Not worth the risk. Closest I've come is having my very mature, responsible teen nephew watch my DD for like 45 minutes while I was in a different room.

I have a girl, fwiw, but would say the same for a son.
