I've had multiple transvaginal ultrasounds for ovarian cysts, and all I can say is: schedule one in the first half of your cycle, when your pain threshold is higher. I'm sure in my case, the pain mostly comes from the cysts, but just a word of warning. Same for mammograms.

I’m 48 and started having mid cycle spotting about 6 months ago.

I’ve had an endometrial biopsy, trans vag ultrasound, SIS ultrasound (to rule out a maybe polyp that ended up not being there - probably was a blood clot), and my routine annual PAP since then. All normal. I also got a second opinion to make sure I had done everything I’m supposed to do, because the spotting has been giving me so much anxiety.

The doctors have all reassured me it’s just my body responding to wacky hormones.

It’s disconcerting, though.

I’m 51 and experienced the same.

I think anytime you mention an irregular cycle or bleeding they want to go in and do tests, just to rule everything out.

Yes, that happened to me frequently in perimenopause. It never even occurred to me that something could be wrong. I had an ultrasound recently for other reasons and everything was normal.

OP can you update? I’m in the same spot and freaking out. Doc wants me to do transvaginal ultrasound and then likely endometrial biopsy

What testing did you get?

52 and after 35 years of atomic clock regularity I have this too. Light brown spotting for a few days mid cycle and leading up to period (& period only lasts a couple of days). Makes it very difficult to tell when cycle is starting or stopping and whether to expect a period that month. I haven’t gotten it checked out bc it just seems like expectable menopause stuff.

I have this and I'm in my late 40s and was told it's normal. They are watching a small poylp too.

I’ve had spotting like that before my period for years and years. I did have an ultrasound several years ago bc of it and all was fine. Doctor said it’s just what’s “normal “ for me. Since it’s new for you makes sense to check it out but I’m guessing it’s just hormonal changes

I don't have spotting before or after a period. Does it lead right into the period and after it, or is there a pause in bleeding and then it starts up again?
The trans-vaginal ultrasound will put your mind at ease. It will look for cysts, fibroids, etc. If it makes you feel better, the people I know who have had something "major" wrong, from cysts on up, had substantial bleeding first. They will also measure your endometrial "stripe" for thickening, to check for endometriosis.

48 and have the same, first happened after second shot, had some polyps and had to get a dnc and biopsy, then was fine for 6 months, now on/off again spotting, also told to get US but exactly one week after end of period, so wont be able to go until August as Im going on atrip...

I'm 47 and have been having new spotting (very lightly brownish tinged) mid cycle and several days before period begins and then again several days after my period ends. I've had it the past several days with some mild cramping but no sign of period. I called doctors office today to check in and they want me to come in for a transvaginal ultrasound and pelvic exam. I'm happy they are being cautious and bringing me in but I'm also feeling anxious about what may be found. This periomenopause time is confusing and stressful!
Is this spotting pattern something others have experienced and have others had similar medical follow up on it?
