Wheaton has a very well regarded Engineering program. It is recognized by UMD’s Clark School of Engineering as the largest “provider” of incoming students in the state. Their STEM oriented after school activities are open to magnet and nonmagnet students. Robotics is a big hit and the Society of Women’s Engineering traveled to complete in Dubai this year. We”ve been pleased by both programs.

All the DCC schools will have open houses in the fall, which highlight their different academy options. You can go and talk with the academy coordinators and some students and teachers.

When we looked into Blair vs Wheaton for engineering for my son, we got the impression that Blair did not really have or at least emphasize engineering. Maybe things have changed.

She just has a general interest in math and technology but isn't ready to completely commit to a magnet program/challenging curriculum.

Pick the size of school your child wants. A big one with lots of options for classes and activities and competition or a smaller one with fewer options but perhaps more opportunities for participation and leadership?

Wheaton for engineering. They have a specific engineering academy and classes. Blair does not.

Wheaton offers the PLTW engineering pathway to non-magnet students. This is a national curriculum with very hands-on activities.

You can get a fine education at either school. The rest is a matter of personal preference. I didn't even know Blair had any sort of engineering classes. The only advice I have is if you aren't applying to a specific program maybe consider where they would fit best socially.
