TJ is not a Tech feeder. More kids go to, and there are others, UMD, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan, UIUC and Purdue.

UVA only has 200 seats in Scholars program? UVA rejects high performing students, and then doesn't provide a program for most of the ones they accept? Why wouldn't UVA want to hold 1000 or so seats for potentially transformative individuals to deepen their VA roots?

There are some other schools better than TJHSST if your high achieving kid wants the best college admission result....McLean, Langley, Yorktown, Madison, Marshall, etc...

Yes because of NCSSM’s guaranteed admission program to UNC. No such thing for TJ grads to UVA. And as a PP noted, probably harder for TJ grads to get into UVA than if they stayed at base HS

Perhaps they require all the kids to do a project and have a greater number of entries and support. I noticed when my kids were at TPMS, they won a large proportion of awards. My youngest was a Broadcom finalist and both my kids won stuff. Kid is at Wheaton magnet where there is no emphasis on this. Even at Blair, there is no requirement to do a project, though they have a Sr research option and encourage it. And, Blair has historically done very will w/ Regeneron over the years considering it's size. But, it has largely been networked kids getting recognized. Don't know about how TJ addresses research/projects. My guess is that NC has a strong network and works it into curriculum somehow.

Actually attending TJ is a disadvantage for college admission.

NCSSM grads get guaranteed admission to the state flagship UNC. NC is smart to want to keep some of their brightest students in state. It’s a shame that UVA doesn’t offer a similar pathway to TJ kids / other VA magnet schools

Was looking at the Regeneron STS Finalist list from this year, and I was shocked to see there were twice as many kids from NCSSM than any other singular high school in the US. I'm not sure if there's ever been a point in history where 4 STS finalists come from the same school. TJ had 1 for reference. How good is NCSSM and what makes it so special?
