My 9 year old loved Blackbird Girls. Also The War that Saved My Life mentioned above.

At that age I loved Katherine by Anya seton.

As the Waltz Was Ending was one of my favorite books as a kid. It’s a memoir of a young ballerina during WWII. There is a sexual assault scene, so you may not be comfortable with that yet, but it’s not terribly graphic. I first read this in about 4th grade.

Thanks. I think she could handle these. We have talked and read about slavery, death, and Nazi's before, and she has handled it well.
