If you have a mask, maybe. Otherwise you're just making it worse for yourself. This is not pollution due to cars. It's a blanket of smoke particles coming from the north.

I’m in nyc and it’s bad. Having my kids wear masks outside because we have to walk to school and they have outdoor recess (haven’t heard of any plans for it to be changed). Last night I was at the theater and going in it smelled faintly like bbq. When we left around 10pm it was stronger and the smoke was making my eyes burn a bit. It’s intense! I imagine in Rochester it would be worse because that much farther north/closer to Canada and I think some of the fires at least are burning farther west.

Have a family wedding in Rochester this weekend. Anyone know how bad it is up there?

Yesterday I stayed inside almost the whole day but still ended up with a migraine and sore throat. I didn’t want to close the windows because I love the birdsong at the feeders and all around my yard, but today I probably will have to. My air filter units ran most of the day yesterday.

I thought I’d escaped this when I left the mountain west and returned home to New England, but now the whole world is burning so this is going to become the norm. Nova Scotia burned for weeks. The maritimes for Pete’s sake! Not a place that should experience intense spring wildfires. Gaia is on fire and everything we knew for generations is turning upside down.

AQI is 172 this morning, which is unhealthy for all groups.

Please do not exert yourself outside, and stay indoors as much as possible.

If you have a high-filter mask, you can wear it outside: KN95, KF94, even surgical masks, will be better than walking about mask-free.
