The possible answer is not any different than your guess that a child is afraid of success. Maybe ask the teacher. They’ve taught every type of student there is.

Hoagiesgifted.org is an excellent resource about gifted kids. DCUM is not ever the place to go about concerns related to giftedness.

yes. Reiterating they cannot win all the time, and learn to deal with disappointments. Work on their fear of success as well as failure, focus on emotional development, encourage them to get out of their narrow comfort zone and try new things from scratch even if starting far behind their peers. Focus on individual effort much more than "gifted" natural ability for consistent results. And when success comes, accept it not with a swell head but with humility and gratitude.

Yes. I wish I could have successfully addressed it. If I could go back, I would try harder to find a good therapist. Don't ask me how to find one because I failed.
