Most people have books they haven't read yet.

If buying books you may never get around to reading is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I mostly read from Kindle Unlimited so I don't know if that counts or not. I've probably read around 100 books so far this year just from KU. I do have a number of books that I own (some given, not bought FWIW) that I haven't read yet, though.

I am the WORST at this - but I have Kindle Unlimited and Amazon First Reads so at least I get a lot of free books now, too. (Free, for whatever I pay in monthly fees - I don't even know.)

I'm terrible at this - I always read e-books from the library and because they're "due" soon, they always feel more urgent. I have a whole shelf of books that need to be read. Another factor is probably that many of the books I buy are by people I know and I do it to be supportive of them.

I rarely buy books anymore, but I have a terrible habit of stopping at every Little Free Library and picking up a new title on my walks. I always donate the book (or other books) back to the LFL, but my TBR stack of physical books always gets too high as Libby and library holds come in at the same time.

I've been trying to read 1-2 of my TBR pile a month. Like a PP, I'm getting better about stopping a book if I get a certain number of pages into it and it's not grabbing my attention. Too many good books and not enough time!

I have been working though my stack. If I start reading a book and get to page 40 or so and I'm not into it I donate it and go on to the next book. It's working well. I haven't bought a new book in forever.

I'm pretty good about not buying brand new books, but I'm awful at library sales! I like to set little challenges for myself. Lots of years I pick a month when I read only from my shelves. Or sometimes I use a random number generator to pick one or two books of my shelves to either read or donate.

And I do utilize wish lists on amazon and at the library instead of buying every book I'm interested in.

But, it's also lovely to have a lot of books!

I only buy books by my absolute favorite authors or after reading something that I know I’ll want to read again and again. So I have two physical unread books right now.

I have multiple library cards and they keep me plenty buys!

1) I stopped buying new books, 2) I set a New Year’s resolution to read at least one book I already own a year.

Now I use Libby and save up my Amazon e-credits for books and don’t spend money on new books or trade books with friends.

I was doing a great job on my TBR pile, and then this weekend I bought a lot of books.

And I just got notified that my fun reading hold is available. Did I tell Libby to postpone delivery and turn to the serious contemporary fiction I'm halfway through? Nope! I checked it out and downloaded to Kindle

Its a good point and I've been trying to do this recently as I've got a ton of books I bought which I've not read / or finished reading.

I don’t buy books anymore, but when I did, I always bought books when I needed new reading material. There was no long TBR hanging out on my shelves. I bought books, read the books, bought more books and so on and further.

Has anyone had success reading what you already own? How did you stick to your stash of unread books and avoid new publications?
