I got a number of estimates last year this time for $10-14k for labor, plus materials/finishings (tub, toilet, vanity, lights, tile, etc.). But this was assuming no plumbing, electric, or floor or wall changes - so not gutting.

I also got an estimate from one of those three (one of the two for $14k) for a full gut - with new electric and plumbing, etc - for $28-32k excluding materials.

So I think a clear question is to what extent you're "gutting"

Get more estimates. That seems high to me. We just did a small 3 piece bathroom reno and paid $10k for labor and $5k for tile and finishes. We're in DC. I would guess you'd spend about $25k on a bathroom that size.

All 4 of the quotes I got only included labor and the general behind the wall materials, then we picked finishes, sometimes with the contractor's help, and paid for those separately. Do other folks pay a set price for everything all included?

We just did this for about $32k in DC, including converting tub to shower and medium-high end fixtures. I am certain that we overpaid somewhat, but am really pleased with the work and construction started about a month after we signed the contract. For us, it was worth it to pay somewhat more for a "name brand" contractor and confidence that we didn't need to babysit the work. YMMV.

I did something similar. I think it shook out to 25k. You should get a bunch of estimates.

Both a shower and a tub? No way. Yes if only a tub.

How about $25k? I'm ok with choosing porcelain or ceramic tile instead of glass or stone, builder's grade drop-in tub, etc.

The first place I contacted said for that size, their bathroom renovations cost $42K and up.

Is that reasonable? If not, what’s a reasonable range right now?

We did this for 20k a month a go

Shouldnt be more than $20k, if all you’re doing is removing existing fixture and replacing.

I’m in DC. That’s high for not having any plumbing changes. Our contractors quoted us 25k.

Way overpriced. Call Roger Amendola 703-402-7240 He did our hall bath with the type of renovations you describe for around $12K. Of course that was two years ago and so price could be a little more now, but I don't see $42.K.
