Remember that old saying from way back? "A mother's 2 happiest days in the year are the first day of school and the last day of school".

While I agree on starting and ending earlier, learning is still happening at all levels. Maybe not at the typical level, but it still is.

I’m glad to hear that that is the case in some schools. My kid seems to have parties and watch videos every day — this is for ES.

My oldest is an 11th grader and we’re counting down the days. Brutal year. The teachers are still giving lots of assignments, even in the AP classes.

OP here - I remember those days as an elementary school teacher. I was one of those who taught up until the last day because I knew the second I stopped and started doing theme day stuff the lack of structure would make my kids wild. I do miss that last day with a class of kids though. My hat is off to all the teachers who are still showing up every day for our kids. It's become such a difficult job. Thank you for all that you do!

It's funny, my "baby" is graduating next week and I am so sad, I will miss him so much when he leaves for college! I can totally remember when my kids were young thinking exactly what the op is saying!

OP here. I am a former elementary school teacher who stopped two years ago. God I remember how brutal it was in the classroom at this point. I'm ready to just have relaxing mornings and time at the pool, trips to the beach to see my parents, etc. I like the slower pace of the summer and getting to pal around with my kids.

I don't get it. Most parents couldn't wait for school to start again once the deadly pandemic ended. I mean some couldn't stop complaining about having to raise their kids.

That's normal OP. I felt like that every single year from when my kids started K to when they are in HS which is now.

The one great thing about them getting older is that you don't have to go to the school yourself so much or interact with people connected to it. That's a huge blessing.

Am I the only parent who cannot wait for this school year to be done? I have a kindergarten and second-grader and I'm doing my best to maintain a positive attitude about these next two weeks but honestly, I just want summer break already. I can't be the only one, right?
