Budget around $40k. Timeline is 2-4 years.

Thanks for the responses. I do have an OCI but I don't know anyone who has adopted from India and whether the timeline/costs were prohibitive.

A friend adopted from India last year. They were willing to take a child with medical needs but reviewed files until there was one they were ok with. Took a couple years all in? Not sure about the cost. One of the requirements was that the adopted child needed to be younger than their bio child.

We did a home study with CHLSS five years ago, though we did not proceed with the adoption. They have some useful information here. India calculates the combined age of the adoptive parents to determine the age of the children you will be eligible to adopt.

The cost of any international adoption is really high - like more than $40k. And I found international adoption to be at least 25% higher than the highest estimates I got from agencies and online. I know a few people who successfully adopted from India. The process was long - much longer than mine.

It's very difficult to adopt from India unless you are of Indian origin.
