I don’t think you are really concerned if poorer kids use the service and are not able to transition to available providers in the community, but those families should reach out to the CSB to see if their child might be eligible for children’s behavioral health services through the CSB:

I just wanted to share that my teen son had his first therapist appt today and he really liked the doctor. The doc was great at connecting with my son. It was a video call via Talkiatry but the doctor (a psychiatrist) is based in Alexandria. Talkiatry accepts insurance and/or you can try the Dr. directly. We had tried video therapy before during COVID and it did not go well. I think the doctor we tried then wasn't great. Not sure if I should mention the Alexandria doctor's name here but if you share an email/burner email I can send it.

Well, you can continue waiting without getting any help, or start something in the interim. If longer term services are needed, they can extend them in certain cases. My hope is that my kid can (re-) learn some coping skills and get things off his chest to relieve some of the pressure. Meanwhile, I can continue to look for a longer term therapist.

Hopefully this will do far more good than harm.

Its part of the contract/sales pitch. They meet with the kids a few times and then segue them into community mental health help. But that's simply impossible around here, as there are no providers.

After months of looking — mostly not getting a call back — I signed my kid up. We did the intake last week. Can’t speak to how good it is. It is 2 months — so not a long term solution, but hopefully they will help with the next step. They called to set up the intake the day after I submitted the paperwork online.
