Omg. So you went to a random cheap restaurant, probably a chain, (entree price well <$20) and you expected some kind of magic act where everything was perfect and you are in a bubble of sterility? Whut?

Also, you can’t eat with anything “dirty” in your line of sight? What biocontainment unit did you grow up in?!

Scoot yourself 3 inches to the right (or left), and your son's head would be blocking the rag from your view. Problem solved.

So Dh and I were seated on one side, two sons seated across from us, and the bussing station was right behind our booth (behind my sons.) It was fine-all we really saw was the side of the cabinet, until after our appetizers a server (not ours) came and placed a spray bottle and rag right on the edge--so basically a few inches from my sons' heads. It wasn't a pristine perfect new rag--it was very stained and grimy looking--at about 3 feet in front of me in my direct line of sight.

I thought it was gross and complained to Dh. Dh thought "it isn't that bad in the scheme of things..." but after I complained a lot, he got up and moved the rag and spray bottle to a different part of the same bussing station, out of my view.
A few minutes later, our food arrived, and Dh's order was wrong. Server took it back to the kitchen. Another server came up to the bussing station, made a noise that showed she was surprised to see the rag/spray bottle moved, and moved it back to the space that was in my direct line of sight (about 3 feet away from my face.)

So Dh got up from the table to complain to the manager. I think he was mostly led to complain because his order was wrong (the server kind of gave him attitude when he pointed it out) and Dh really thought I was making too big a deal about the rag.

What do you think? Isn't a dirty rag, in your direct line of sight, pretty gross to see while eating?

Can you calirfy? An Iphone is about 5 inches long. Are you saying that if your son placed one end of an iPhone to his head the other end would be touching the rag?

Maybe a few inches more than that.
The bussing station was touching the the back of the low backed booth we were in, and the server put the rag on the edge closest to our booth.

I realize that (and I do all of my own cleaning) but it doesn't mean I want to see it 3 feet from my face while I'm paying good money to eat.

Eat at home or ask to be seated elsewhere in the restaurant instead of complaining and making your husband deal with your issues.

Why are there so many adults who have no idea how to use their words?

When the server came and moved the cleaning rag back within your sight, why would you not just say "Excuse me, but we would rather not see the cleaning supplies while we eat. Could you please move it back out of sight?"

A simple request and the server would move it. If you weren't so passive aggressive, then your husband wouldn't have had to "had words" with the manager about a simple gesture.

Oh, sweet naive OP. If a dirty rag in eyesight is so highly bothersome to you, you don't want to know what goes on in kitchens when you eat out.
