I love it and there's many ways to achieve the same result - cards or letters on birthdays, regular e-mails to the kid (they won't access it until later), annual photo books, a journal, etc.

Also, if I had a nanny or anyone else who was a big part of my kid's life, I would definitely invite their participation. It's not shameful for your kid to know that they were cherished by multiple adults.

I love this idea but do a slightly different version -- I have been keeping a notebook with stories and things I want to share with my kid since she was born, and then having them printed in a book with photos of her and our family when she turns 5. I did it in lieu of a baby book, because I find baby books kind of random.

I think I might do another when she turns 10 and another at 15 and then the last one at 20. I like having more time to figure out what I am putting in the book and to tell some stories that are longer. Like the book I'm putting together for this year has a story about her friendship with a girl she met when she was just a few months old and they will now be entering kindergarten together, plus a story about the pandemic and how it impacted our family and what we did in the early days when she was still very little. It's been really fun putting it together and I'm having two copies made so that I can keep one as a keepsake too.

I cannot fathom why anyone would take parenting advice from a woman who has a graphic sex video.

I feel like this is one of those things I’d never actually read beyond a skim - like so much mom effort would go into it and then as an adult I wouldn’t actually care that at 6 I tried soccer and didn’t like it and did a cartwheel for the first time and my best friends with Rosie and Claire
