We are considering moving to DMV and from what I have read so far, cut off is September 1st. So if we move to MD this summer, she will have to repeat grade 4.
We would like to avoid that if possible. Has anyone faced this issue when moving across states and also, found any ways to go around this?
You’ll be fine. My daughter is late august 2013 and a 4th grader for another week.
Redshirting of girls is not rampant here like in the southern states. There’s a nice distribution plus your daughter will get 5th grade in ES and then go to the middle school model for 6th.
We have a similar situation however are moving from a progressive private school to testing-centric public school with a sept 1 cutoff but 1/3 of the kids are redshirted or more. So will be 12-18 mos older than our daughter plus 5th grade is a MS model. We don’t know what to do. It will be a double adjustment and tracking get set based in 5th test results and grades.
