I wouldn’t ditch a car in rural’ish Florida. If you ever need to evacuate ahead of a hurricane, you’d be f#cked.

OP here.
Thank you for the suggestions everyone.

To the poster who suggested a Ford Escape -- I looked up that type of car. I have seen those on the roads. They look cute and the hatchback makes it versa tile. Also excellent MPG and cheap. I will do further research on that type of car. Thanks.

To the poster who suggested a Pontiac -- No. They quit making Pontiacs in 2010 and I want something with a back up camera.

To the poster who said I need a new battery -- It's not that. I have had it checked. The battery is at 80 percent. What is wrong is that moisture / humidity / corrosion is getting on all the electronic relays. I am not driving it enough to burn off the moisture. My vehicle is only four years old, so I am feeling sad about this.

To the poster who suggested just being car free -- I have thought about that a lot. I live in kind of a rural area in Florida and we don't have public transportation. I have done the math in regard to renting a car or using an uber or taxi, and it would come to about $300 a month to do that. Which is tempting. But I have had a vehicle of my own since I was 19 years old and I am just not willing to be a person without a vehicle yet.

Can you be car-free altogether? Instead of spending on a new car, take cabs/ubers/busses/zipcar to where you need to go three times per month?

You just need a new battery OP. And make sure you take at least a 30 min drive once a month to recharge your battery and get the oil hot enough to burn out contaminants

I'm retired too and I don't drive much because there is so much to do in my community that I can walk to and I barely need to leave. I also live just a few blocks from several groceries, drug stores, shops, etc. I noticed that in the last three weeks I used less than a quarter tank of gas.

I'm driving a 2009 Ford Escape with 180K miles on it. It starts up fine and drives fine every time.

OP here. I Retired a few years ago and now I am very happy staying home mostly. However, my current vehicle is apparently not happy about not being driven much.
I want to trade it in for some other vehicle that will not be reluctant to start and go and do what it should even if it has sat in my carport for a week or two.
Any suggestions?
