The costs of owning a MB are significantly more than you’ll anticipate. BTDT. Switched to Audi and I am no longer living at the dealership.

I had a Mercedes SUV for ten years after owning Audis, Lexuses, and Acuras. . It was a beautiful car with the most comfortable front seats. FYI, the leather is not as nice as Lexus and Acura. The fit and finish were impeccable and solidly built. Brakes were great. That said, I got tired of the bad service of our local dealer, the expensive maintenance and repair bills, and the latest string of recalls.

I grew up wealthy and we drove almost exclusively Mercedes. When I first left home, I was surprised by how cheap car maintenance is for a Honda.

The cost isn’t really the MB, it’s the upkeep. And if you don’t do all the scheduled up keep there will be issues. That being said, it’s a super comfortable car.

If you want to start with an A class (poor man’s Mercedes) it can ease you into that price point.

My DH is also a big MB fan. They are expensive. But they are sturdy, fun to drive, and comfortable. Why not let your DH make this decision and it if turns out to be a mistake, then go back to less expensive cars going forward.

I’m with you, OP. Expensive cars are not the best use of money. But sometimes when there’s an impasse, somebody will get to make the call. This time let it be your DH.

Sounds like DH wants a Mercedes and you don’t. Who is going to be driving it?

Mercedes-Benz are nice cars, comfortable and luxurious, with advanced safety and technology features. In the context of pricey foreign luxury cars most models are fairly conservative and sedate.

They also are, like all German cars, expensive to maintain and susceptible to performance and reliability issues if neglected.

You should buy the car you want, not the car you think somebody else will approve of you having. A successful person’s buying choices are dictated by wants, not needs. It is a question of values. Some people do prioritize charity. Others have no interest in cars and are content to have a generic econobox for basic transportation.

But if you spend a lot of time in the car, want advanced safety and security and it makes you happy, there is nothing wrong with owning a Mercedes-Benz.
