I think of all the "Should we sell the house?" "How can we, when we've made all these memories?" setups. I guess if you need to save money, you can also save money on writers.

Yes, I remember The Jeffersons had one where a burglar had broken in and tied up Louise and George in their kitchen. They passed the time reminiscing together about all these events which were setups for clip after clip from past episodes, including some clips from All in the Family.

I agree. Quick callbacks are comedy gold. But clips as exposition are awful.

Remember watching the latest episode of a favorite show, starts with a high concept setup like someone has returned from a long list voyage or someone has amnesia or is on trial…

And then the show proceeds to play clips from prior episodes for most of the slot, with like make 15 minutes of actual new content

Apparently it was a budgeting/personnel trick if they ran short of money because of expensive episodes or if actors were unavailable. They were so tedious if you watched prior episodes; rewatching an old series like I am now (Alias) it is horrible since I basically binge stresm right into clip show so it’s sooo repetitive.

I actually don’t like binge watching in general but ending the clip show is a streaming triumph.
