I’d think your child’s counselor would be the best person to answer, if the school does actually offer both.

My understanding is that the 2 Year was intended to eventually replace Bridge, but individual schools may be doing that at different paces.

And Bridge does seem to largely be removed from the catalog—it’s not in the general course offerings list—but it may be lingering in some spots, either officially or in name only. Only a counselor could answer that question for next year.

Since it’s a math elective, whereas 2 Year Algebra 2 is a core course, I can see how it might have its place. In particular as a summer course: maybe you didn’t do well in Algebra 1 for one reason or another, but don’t want to back off the Precalc track, so you take Bridge over the summer to be sure you’re prepared for standard Algebra 2.

Many colleges highly recommend a minimum of Precalc to be competitive for admissions, even for non-STEM majors. So Bridge could be helpful in that scenario.

It's in this Wotton catalog, for example.

(That doesn't prove the class is actually still offered.)

I get the theory of the idea of Bridge, but it seems nitpicky to have both that and 2-Year, and it splits the student body awkwardly, making it harder to fill classes.

Comparing "1 year review of algebra 1 and then regular speed algebra 2" vs "go slower and practice more in each module", 2-Yr Algebra 2 seems more sensible.

If 2-Year Alg 2 is allowed after Bridge, for students who want to really slow down but not get off the track completely, that would make sense.

"MCPS forgot to remove Bridge from the website" seems plausible also.

As I understand it, Bridge reinforces Algebra 1 concepts and establishes connections to Algebra 2, while the 2 Year course just slows down the pace of standard Algebra 2. So Bridge would be for kids who need a solid refresher on Algebra 1 concepts after a year of Geometry, while 2 Year builds in the reinforcement with each unit.

But I thought they had phased out Bridge as they implemented Curriculum 2.0? I’m curious where you’re seeing it offered.

What is "Bridge to Algebra 2" ?

I understand the idea, but I don't see how it fits into the overall math pathways. It seems redundant.

It is not in the Math Pathways doc .

What is the difference between ("Bridge to Algebra 2" +"Algebra 2") vs "2-Year Algebra 2" ?
