What do you mean by "holding out"?

If you mean, keeping hope that the "you are off the WL call" could magically occur - then sure - you could get that call between now and June 1 but is probably not likely.

If you mean waiting on WL news to make some other decision, then you should have "moved on" back in March.

Totally fine to reach out.

I would wait until mid June, as most contracts for next year start on June 1, but as others have said, likely not spots opening.

You have one week left before full
Tuition is due at one of the schools for which you have paid a deposit. Time to accept where your child is going or pay the tens of thousands of dollars with the hope you will get some phone call late in the summer. Perhaps you have the money for that. Is it your dream school or theirs? Assume your child is keeping quiet too about plans for next year which must be uncomfortable at some point.

yes, good idea because there’s a chance the school will reveal to you how realistic it is at this point (don’t ask this directly, give them a chance to share this info.)

It’s too late to be holding out hope if that is preventing you from finding an alternative and getting yourself (and more importantly your child) excited about it. Assume you are not getting in and plan accordingly. It’s fine to continue to hope you might get off the waitlist because there is always a — teeny tiny — chance you will.

Not too late! You have nothing to lose at this point. Pick up the phone and call.

No it’s not! Didn’t get one of my DC off waitlist until mid July last year.

Got into Gonzaga last week. Losing the deposit because it was our first choice.

At this time, late May, it really is very unlikely to happen. If the unlikely happens, likely someone else will get off the waitlist. Go with your backup plan.

If you are locked in on that ine school, then Re-apply next year - schools track applicants so they will learn you are very interested. In turn, that might boost acceptance chances for next year.

You should assume you aren't getting off and get excited about the alternative school. If and when the waiting list does move, you can be pleasantly surprised. But the chances were always tiny.
