Unfortunately it’s the other way round. Much easier to find expensive pieces that seem bad quality C

For “wonderful” quality, you’re going to have to spend some dosh.

Sadly, I think well made clothing at any price is a thing of the past.

Better to buy high quality brands at discounted vendors like Rue La Lan or outlet stores. Or wait for seasonal sales.

Second hand is the way to go.

I used to really like Cable & Gauge knits available at Macys and even Ross, but I haven't seen those in a long time.

If you like a particular brand check out ebay - I have purchased some brand new pieces this way (Veronica Beard for one) at a fraction of the cost - like 80% off.

How inexpensive? For basics, I find Universal Standard to be pretty good with some nice detailing, but they aren’t dirt cheap. They do go on sale frequently, though.

Poshmark — find brands that you like or search by material. Lots of treasures on there for a fraction of the retail cost.

Inexpensive items are usually cheaply made, with flimsy material and subpar construction. You’re looking for a unicorn, OP.

I have a moderate clothing budget - and I have tended to buy higher end/higher quality pieces on eBay, the real real, and postmark.

While it is true that many expensive clothing pieces aren’t any nicer than mid-range pieces, I don’t think there many inexpensive pieces of high quality. I will say there are some Macy’s Charter Club stretch poly pieces (shirt dress, button front blouse) in chain and other vaguely nautical/preppy prints are equal to J. Mclaughlin, but that is not really saying much.

I’ve heard always that it doesn’t matter the store but the quality of the item.

Do you have anything you’ve purchased or seen that is inexpensive but wonderful quality?

Any examples?
