+1

It is a tough language to listen to.

Agree with Vietnamese. It sounds like all vowels.

French or Mandarin as the most beautiful.
German and Dutch sound harsh to me.

I don't find any language ugly sounding, but German is definitely harsh on the ear.

Agree with all this.

I actually love the sound of Dutch. The vowels especially.

Can’t think of any language that is “ugly”. They are all fascinating.

Bedankt! (Dutch speaker here)

I have to agree with this. The change in tones and unexpected inflections stimulates your brain- not in a good way.

I don’t love Afrikaans, which my grandmother used to speak. Nor Arabic and Hebrew, with their very guttural sounds. Irish is nice.

Meh. Some languages are definitely harsher. Some dialects are awful to understand and are hard on the vocal cords. The speakers are used to the harshness of their language so they don't notice. But there's nothing ignorant about pointing this out.

The ugliest language is German. Always German. All I can hear is Hitler when I’m around it.

Italian is most beautiful to my ears. It is a musical language.

I actually love the sound of Dutch. The vowels especially.

What’s your favorite, and least favorite, language you’ve heard spoken? Just by the way it sounds to you, whether or not you actually speak it or understand it.

My favorite is Lithuanian, the language of my grandmother. Apparently it’s all very old language and hasn’t changed much since the original dialect, and it sounds ancient plus a little bit drunk.

Least favorite is Dutch or Cantonese.
