Summer jobs worth doing in college are generally in major cities.

Oh my goodness, now I know the origin story of the three completely hapless adults I know who can’t drive. Tell your son that there WILL come a day when his friends refuse to indulge him any more. I told one of DH’s college friends point blank after a few years of indulging her that no, we wouldn’t be picking her up from the Metro and giving her rides anymore, once Uber came out.

This was me but I would not admit it was that. How long is his learner’s permit good for?

My now 21 yr old got her license at 18. For awhile she claimed that she would never want to drive, but she later decided it would be good to have a license. Why? In her words, because she may want to have a backup job as a bus driver someday.

My teen son claims to not want to learn. I think he prefers to stare at his phone vs focusing on driving. To me, learning to drive is non-negotiable. But I get some teens may be reluctant for other reasons.

I think it’s a safety issue - generally seems like teens should get licensed so if a situation came up where a driver was needed, they could do it. If their like works out so they hardly ever have to drive, great.

I mean he can learn the bus schedule, or paid for his own uber rides

I told him to get the license first. He can decide whether to drive or not, he will have the option. But he insists he doesn’t want to ..

Depends, are you willing to pay for a car, gas & insurance in full? If you’re the one wanting him to drive, that’s on you to pay. He might live in major cities for the rest of his life.

Soon to be 18 Senior refuses to practice driving this summer, let him?
He has taken the written test only.
We live in VA suburb and he is going to Boston for college in September, he said he doesn’t need to drive there ..
