I have a home on Cape Cod and Memorial Day is a very big wedding weekend here. I don’t think of Memorial Day as family time. Plus maybe it’s a family wedding.

It’s chilly about 2 of 3 Memorial Day weekends though. OP usually we see guests wearing pashminas over their summer dresses that weekend. At one wedding all the female guests were wearing the same white pashmina, I’m guessing it was a welcome gift!

Where in the NE? It’s looking like the high is gong to be 70 or so all over the northeast and new england on Saturday. You should be fine with a warm wrap.

In my experience, everyone just brings whatever random coat they have that's appropriate for the weather and wears it on top of their dress. So that might be uniqlo short puffer jackets or whatever. Doesn't look glamorous but no one wants to have to buy a fancy coat to go with their fancy dress. Point is, every single wedding guest is struggling with this same decision right now, and that means they're all going to show up looking like a bit of a motley crew.

High of 60 degrees means that during the wedding festivities (5 pm - 11 pm) it will be closer to 45-50 degrees. Wearing a typical "wedding guest" spring/summer dress (bare legs, short sleeves or sleeveless dress) may not be the technical definition of freezing (32 degrees) but it will feel quite chilly and uncomfortable.

I would love this. I really don’t get the outdoor weddings when it’s hot and humid and 90+ degrees. It’s awful. And the men have to wear suits.

We went to a freezing outdoor reception. All wore coats. Lots of those teddy bear and furry things. Cute.

The ceremony will probably be brief, bring a wrap. Can you ask the bride or groom if the reception is indoors? You could also call the venue and ask them.

There are multiple anniversaries Memorial Day weekend in my family because it’s easier for the extended family to travel on a holiday weekend.

The high is forecasted to be 60 degrees the day of the wedding! I think the ceremony is outside, not sure about the rest of the festivities.

Cocktail attire is requested. All of my long-sleeved dresses are work attire and don't feel right for a wedding. I guess I just wear a sleeveless cocktail dress and bring a cashmere wrap and freeze? I'd prefer not to buy a new dress just for this wedding, and I'm not sure what kind of warm long sleeved cocktail dresses that aren't velvet or winter-appropriate are out there anyway.

Any suggestions on how to balance comfort with style for this event? Thank you!
