The hospital social worker can arrange medical transport. My aunt uses it all the time to go between her nursing home and the hospital. If she uses a wheelchair it’s about $150 but if she needs to use a stretcher then it’s around $400. Medicare doesn’t pay as mentioned above.

Ask the social worker or case manager in the hospital - they are discharge planners. Unfortunately, Medicare only covers the cost of an ambulance if a patient is bedbound, and private pay can be somewhere around $400. Wheelchair vans are cheaper but the driver will not help a patient up the steps, etc.

My MIL is in the hospital and will be discharged tomorrow. My FIL needs help getting her into the house, and the hospital hasn’t been much help. Anyone know a local medical transport company We could call? This is in Chevy Chase MD
