OP here. I'm in Montgomery County so I'm looking for a place in upper NW DC or MoCo. We are only looking for Continuing Care -- that excludes some. TIA for informed recommendations.

If one of your parents was a military officer or civil service GS-14 or higher, Vinson Hall in McLean is a great option (assuming it's logistically feasible for you). It's a non-profit and my mom is very happy there. She's recovering from surgery and is in the skilled nursing facility and it's just great.

Look at Ingleside or Fox Hill

Leisure World isn’t continuing care.

I’m in Arlington and looking at the Virginian and the brand new McLean village for my mom. I think that the location of the McLean one is better, but the rooms are small. Virginian rooms are much bigger, but the location isn’t great, imo.

Where are you? Suggestions for upper MoCo aren't going to help someone in Arlington.

There are a bunch of nice ones in Montgomery County. But as others have said, I would pick the nicest but also closest one to where you live. Driving 2 minutes vs 20 minutes is a big deal if you plan to visit frequently.

they won't join bus trips to museums, etc?

i know a few families happy at riderwood. sunrise has facilities all over, and at different price points. fox hill was built about 10 years ago and has condominiums as well as standard senior monthly rooms

I agree with this also. People who get regular visitors get better care too.

I haven’t had a person there, but Riderwood left me with a good impression when I visited.

yes, that!

i've been happy with the care my parents receive at Thomas Circle. The IL services were somewhat scarce during covid but the events seem to be ramping up and the dining room is back in action.

Also helpful that it's very metro accessible unlike the community attached to Sibley.
