Yeah that doesn’t make sense to me. But if a test drive was necessary and your hood latch was broken, not sure why you think they should be responsible.
That’s the thing; it wasn’t broken by our estimation. We’ve opened and closed it successfully at home and driven with no problems. If they checked it and assessed the latch was a problem, why take it out for a test drive?

I asked them to check the engine as well, as the exhaust seemed to be emitting more smoke than usual.

Took car in for emission and oil change to local garage/gas station that we have been going to for years. Get a call saying the hood latch isn’t functioning and that it flew open on a test drive, cracking the windshield. I have driven my car on the highway many times and have lifted the hood to add washer fluid and have never had a problem. The hood is now bent and windshield needs to be fixed. Lead mechanic said he would talk to the station owner. Am I wrong in thinking I shouldn’t pay for this?
