Yeah you’re more likely to get it from kids than the school no matter how long you stay. But in the long run, I don’t see how you’re going to force someone to pay. There is so much he-said-he-said here and likely insufficient evidence to get you anywhere.

This is very common.

My DD was being bullied and did not tell me. I was contacted by her counselor after an incident in which water was dumped through her gym locker, soaking her clothes that were in there while wearing her PE clothes. The counselor and Principal both said they couldn't give me the students' names or their exact punishment details due to privacy concerns.

OP again. The key has not been returned. I was unable to leave work during the school day today when everything was happening and will ask to meet with the officer and principal tomorrow. I won’t leave the school until I get the parent’s name(s).

Stealing someones car keys out of their backpack, moving their car and then losing/keeping the car key is not a prank. What if this kid would've backed over a student/teacher while they were moving the car? What if they would've hit another car or caused damage to property? He sounds like an entitled jerk and/or bully and needs to be punished. And his parents *should* pay for the car to be rekeyed and the new set of keys. If this is a car that requires more modern automatic keys, those are $500 a pop on average to replace.

Does your school have a PTA or someone who produces a directory?

Otherwise if you know the kid’s name you/your kid can start asking around. If it’s a neighborhood school someone has to have an idea where he lives.

Call the real police, not the school resource officer. You need to file a police report - just because the crime occurred on the school campus doesn’t mean it’s immune to proper channels. The fact they didn’t resolve this the day it happened by going through all the footage tells you, you haven’t done enough.

You aren't going to get any money from teh parents. Report it to the school and police.

The thief essentially vandalized the car to the point of it being undrivable (by stealing and losing the key). I think the policy would fall under a student deliberately damaging the property of another student.

What steps have you taken? You apparently know the kid who did it. I would get law enforcement involved and I wouldn't take it easy on him cause he's a minor. He needs to be accountable for his actions.

Our son’s car keys were stolen from his backpack and the car was moved in the parking lot. The key fob was returned but the key was not. The kid claimed that he gave the key to another student but he denies it.

We only had one key for the car as our son purchased it used from my FIL. Since the kid who stole the keys is a minor, we do not know who he is or his parents. He could still have the key for all we know.

We will need to get the car rekeyed and new keys made and would like to get reimbursed by the family of the kid who stole my son’s keys.

What are the rules here. We are mad about the whole thing. Any advice?
