In a race where no one ran against him, 17 percent of W6 voters in the general election either wrote in someone else or didn't vote for anyone at all. In the primary (also an uncontested race), 13 percent of W6 voters did so.

Not exactly a sign of a beloved council member.

+1. I voted for Charles Allen, because he's done a lot of the things I've wanted to get done in Ward 6 -- like helping to get money to install a playground and music area around Eastern Market metro, get funding for Rumsey pool renovations, and he's been very responsive to school-related requests. Am I happy about the crime? No, of course not, and I know I see a lot more of it than Ward 3 DCUM. But like Jeff said, he is one single person, so crime failures can't be entirely on him.

He has kids my kids age and I see him all the time at playgrounds, etc. Hill East, liberal, I don't think the crime is his fault.

It is easy to say that no matter where you are sitting. The obsession with Charles Allen, whether it comes from those who start thread after thread about him here, or bring him up in completely unrelated threads, or are members of Congress who should devote their efforts to their own districts, is insane.

Does not matter who votes for him. There is no alternative. NOBODY ran against him. He can vote for himself and he would win if nobody else voted.

No one ran against him last time and the election before that someone ran to the left of him. I votes for Charles Allen back when Tommy Wells stepped down and he seemed much more reasonable. Maybe I didn't know exactly what it meant to be a progressive back then.

+1 I am a Charles Allen voter by default. If someone ran against him, I would read their platform and decide if their goals were sufficiently fleshed out and more aligned with mine that Allen’s and vote accordingly.

I will note for anyone considering running for office: having a campaign website that uses HTTPS (so modern browsers don’t throw up a ton of errors when trying to visit it) and covers more than one issue is helpful in giving (this) voters confidence.

For those of us in other Wards, can you please describe the typical Charles Allen voter? Who are the 25,000 neighbors that gave us him?

The backwards slide this city is taking is stunning following his tenure leading the Public Safety Committee. If he had any dignity he’d resign and never be seen again.
