Adrenal problems are a real thing, as is perimenopause.

My perimenopause started at 42, with shortened and lighter cycles. My PMS symptoms tend to be more pronounced than they were before, but it's hard to know for sure, because I was on birth control for so long.

Perimenopause is when a decrease in estrogen puts all the sex hormone ratios out of whack, with fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone that end up shortening cycles, provoking lighter or sometimes much heavier periods, and causing hot flashes, fatigue, brain fog, breast tenderness, bloating, cramps, etc...

Regular exercise, eating more healthy fats and less animal fats, along with nuts and whole grains, is recommended for women in perimenopause to reduce hormonal imbalances as much as possible. Doctors can test all your reproductive hormones and prescribe hormone therapy if you are a good candidate (increased risk of cancer if you're on it for too long). You can also follow your hormone fluctuations at home with Proov for a bit before going to the doctor, if you're so inclined.

How are you so dumb?? Are you for real?

I was about 49? I'm 52 now, still have regular periods. I started on HRT last year and it really helped me - i have no more night sweats, my moods around my period are much better (I knew something was wrong a few years ago when I missed a traffic light and the thought came into my head that I would be better off dead - my period started the next day) and sex is not painful, in fact is it really pleasurable. I was a late bloomer (I didnt have my first period until I was 16 or 17) so I'm assuming my peri started later than normal and that full menopause will probably later than normal.

47/48, I am 50 now and the symptoms is getting worse, like really. Within the cycle, of 26 days and still heavy period, I feels good only about a week, the rest is just fatigue and fatigue and awful and headache and insomnia and anxiety. I hope it is near the end as well.

My periods changed a bit at 48 and have gone completely off the rails as I approach 51, but I haven't noticed any other symptoms. I'm hoping the end is near.

Sigh....this in itself is not true. Yes, perimenopause is a 'real thing '. It's the result of changing hormones due to the aging process.

Op, I started in peri at 47 . Periods got irregular, and difficult with bad fatigue and pain. Not every month but sometimes. Occasionally had hot flashes. At 50... periods stopped. It's been 18 months so I think it's done and I LOVE it! Menopause is awesome!!! No more periods to deal with!!!

I don't use any hrt due to family risk factors and honestly I wouldn't want them as I feel good. Everyone has to decide that for themselves.

I don't think they usually test for it. My symptoms started at 45.

I’ll be 43 this year and wondering if some of the changes I’ve noticed with my body may be the beginning of menopause.

-Anxiety (had to start Zoloft)
-Brain fog
-Forgetful of names
-Debilitating fatigue
-Apathy
-Sore breasts
-Finger joints hurt randomly
-Feel really really warm sometimes (had a spell while using the restroom today at work)

My periods haven’t changed at all and still come like clockwork every 28 days. Are doctors able to test hormone levels to determine if I’m starting perimenopause?
