How do you know what the scheduled online class is? At least last year they did not release the scheduled synchronous time until the day or so before. And even then, we ended up requesting a change because it conflicted with swim and got another section that worked out.

I read somewhere that you'd be assigned to one of four time slots and then it listed the time slots, but they were close enough together that all of them conflicted with commitments he has.

This is true. For VV, someone at the local HS has to oversee the work (though the work required is essentially nothing). Many schools don’t want to do that.

PP here--side note that VADETS is completely asynchronous except for the final exam. But only two modules are released per week so you can't work ahead (although you could work behind I suppose).

My kid is enrolled now, for PE 10 through Virtual Virginia and Drivers Ed thru VADETS, which she has already started. I suspect that some of the postings above are talking about FCPS Online HPE10, and NOT Virtual Virginia. Your school counselor has to approve and enroll your child in VV, and VADETS requires a form signed by your school approving your enrollment and for what reason.

Classes for PE start June 6. I chose this so it would be over by mid July, even though she will have some overlap with the end of school. There is also a later start option. My kid can do it during mascot time a few days and even go to the library and do it if needed, as we all know nothing is going on in school by then. The enrollment states that they do not have to attend live classes although they do take place from 10:30-11 daily--all classes are recorded but must be watched daily. I can't figure out how to pay for it bc my invoice says I owe 0$ but I am sure at some point I will pay, and I believe it is around 325$. VADETS was 119$.

I cannot speak to the amount of work bc my student didn't actually take PE 9 this way. So we will see.

Sorry, I'm not much help as DC only did HPE10 over the summer; HPE9 was in school. All I can say is that the one kid I know who did HPE9 with VV found it pretty easy and the work out requirements seemed less strict than those for the on-line campus.

Thanks! My kid is a pretty serious athlete, which is why we have the scheduling conflict with the on-line campus, but my understanding is that he could count what he's already doing for the workout part.

I am hoping to find out how much work the rest of it is. The on-line campus said to expect to spend 6 hours a day. Which wouldn't work for us, unless he could count all his hours of working out towards that. VV doesn't say anything about the number of hours. It just says you can miss class and watch a recording, which is why I am hoping it might work.

My kid spent nowhere near 6 hours a day through the online campus, including the one hour class and one hour workout (which can be divided into two 30 minute sessions). There are heart rate targets each week so whether your DC can use his sport will depend on what he does and what the current goal is. My kid swims, and unfortunately that didn't meet the required metrics for all of the units (plus she hated swimming with my Apple Watch on) so she was only able to submit that data occasionally and had to do other workouts the rest of the time.

Overall, it was pretty easy. DD took it P/F so didn't take it all that seriously, skipped two assignments related to a sensitive subject entirely, and still earned the equivalent of an A-. Had she cared, she'd absolutely have gotten an A without much more effort. The hardest part of the online campus is that you must attend the daily class for an hour. They will work with you if your assigned time is a conflict (DD got a morning slot that was during swim practice and I was easily able to get her moved to an afternoon meeting).

Can you clarify what you mean by it's harder? Like is there more written work? Or written work that's harder?

Kid's a good student. He can do a challenging class. But he can't spend 6 hours a day on it, when he's also committed to doing other things.

It’s allowed, you have to pay, and it’s serious. All the kids I know who have taken it (I teach 10th grade) say it’s way harder than regular PE and it’s not a blow off fake class just because it’s online.
