Uh… you should lottery for BASIS. It’s not what you think it is.

It’s exactly what you think it is.

What do you consider a “rigid” teaching approach?

Honestly, you should move to Fairfax or MoCo. You can go to TJ (the best STEM high school in the country) or apply for one of the math/science magnets in MoCo, which are incredible. Don't waste your time in DC.

+1...If you a STEM kid, those are you options. You can do DCPS with a lot of supplementing. BASIS is not a STEM school. When we toured a few years ago, that was clear. I work in STEM and they couldn't answer any of my questions. Maybe it's improved...But I'd move to MoCo. Just better resources for STEM.

A number of the DCPS middle schools let the more advanced 8th graders take geometry (after algebra in 7th).

No. 5% or less of kids on grade level in both math and science.

Have you gone to a BASIS open house and asked what their teaching approach is like, or are you going off DCUM?

I would be open to DCPS if there was a realistic chance to get a lottery spot OOB.

I have a late elementary DC who is very interested in science and math. I don't think DC would be a good fit for the more rigid teaching approach I understand is part of BASIS. Interested in learning if there are any other MS charters that are stronger in science and math than others?
