I am trying to make a decision that works best for my whole family. The metro might work for your kid and others but isn't an option for mine. Who are you to assume I favor which child over which? The fact that I want to do what's best academically for my kids and already commuting far for my children is proof enough that my priorities are straight.

I would definitely not uproot my 2nd grader from a good school they were happy at so that my 9th grader didn't have to commute via public transport.

If your son happens to be a male of color I’d recommend staying at Shepherd. Not exactly Hearst’s strong suit. It’s an otherwise pretty fantastic school.

Sounds like you really favor your oldest.

You would make a third grader switch out of a school you are happy with so that your high schooler doesnt have to take the bus or metro?

Get your priorities straight. Your teen can get themselves to school.

We've had a great experience at Hearst and the 2nd graders are great group of kids! I think there will be 2 classes for 3rd grade next year. I can't speak to the quality of the 3rd grade teachers but all of the teachers we have had for the younger grades have been amazing.

Unless it significantly improves your commute, I would stay put. You and your kid are happy at Shepherd, which is awesome. The lottery makes school changes look deceptively easy, but they are disruptive and the grass isn’t always greener. (Ask me how I know, lol.)

Many many 9th graders commute to school by metro. I would stay at Shepherd if you are happy with it

Yes, OOB at Shepherd which is already a commute. Therefore weighing my options. I would prefer if my 9th grader did not have to catch the train to JR. Glad to hear the schools are comparable, Shepherd has been a good experience so far!

I don’t understand why you would do this if you are happy at shepherd.

Are you OOB for Shepherd and would need to do a double commute? Can your 9th grader not take public transportation to JR? Not sure why you'd uproot your second grader for very comparable schools unless you have some additional circumstances you didn't include here.

Im aware they both feed into Deal. Hearst seems like it would help with the commute as its not far from JR. Would love feedback on Hearst.

Currently at Shepherd for 2nd grade but have received an offer at Hearst. I have an incoming 9th grader at JR next year so commute is a factor. Very pleased with Shepherd.
